PlaySafe’s poured-in-place playground safety surface is a unique combination of EPDM or TPV rubber granules, a cushion layer of shredded recycled rubber, and a polyurethane binder that is poured in place on-site — providing a unitary surface for endless applications.

This playground protective surface provides critical fall height protection for children on playgrounds. Shock-absorbing surfaces help disperse the momentum of a falling body, reducing the risk of head trauma and other serious or life-threatening injuries.

Installation Overview

PlaySafe surfaces are custom-installed on-site by professional crews. The general installation sequence is as follows:

Sub-Base Preparation

The sub-base must be structurally sound, properly graded for drainage, and free of debris, oils, and contaminants. Specific preparation requirements vary by base type (concrete, asphalt, compacted stone, or other approved base).

Priming

An approved polyurethane primer is applied to the prepared base surface. Primer ensures proper adhesion of the attenuation base layer to the sub-base.

Base Layer Installation

Recycled SBR rubber buffings are mixed with polyurethane binder and placed in the required depth to achieve the specified CFH rating. Material is screeded to a uniform depth

Wear Course Installation

EPDM or TPV rubber granules are mixed with polyurethane binder and applied over the cured base layer to the specified wear course depth. The wear course is screeded smooth and checked for uniformity.

Custom Design & Graphics

Logos, game patterns, inlaid graphics, and multi-zone color designs are incorporated during the wear course installation. Different colored granules are placed and screeded within defined border areas.

Cure & Inspection

The system is in place. Cure times vary by temperature and humidity conditions. The surface is inspected before handoff.

Installation must be performed by PlaySafe-trained installation crews. Improper installation voids warranty.

Maintenance

PlaySafe poured-in-place surfaces require minimal maintenance compared to loose-fill alternatives. General maintenance guidelines:

Inspect the surface regularly for damage, tears, or separation at borders and edges
Remove debris, leaves, and standing water promptly
Clean with water and a mild detergent as needed; avoid harsh solvents
Inspect drainage points and drain details annually to ensure free flow
Repair minor damage promptly using compatible PlaySafe repair materials
